Treating Acne Effectively

When it comes to treating acne, it is not necessary to use harsh chemical peels, retinols, laser therapy. Many of the products commonly used in the treatment of acne are too harsh and drying which results in the body producing more oil to compensate for the oils stripped from the skin by the harsher products. When the skin is too dry, the skin pores shrink with resulting ‘clogged pores.’ Many prescription medications such as antibiotics, retinoids, Accutane, acne home remedies and various acne laser treatments actually cause additional skin damage and may lead to a condition referred to as acne rosacea. The oral and topical antibiotics can work for up to several months before the bacteria become immune to the antibiotic, causing the antibiotic to no longer be effective.

Acne-Ltd III will improve the appearance of acne-prone skin without the negative side effects of Accutane, antibiotics, or retinoid acne medications. Initial studies performed on test subjects with acne demonstrate, and 98 percent of previous Acne-Ltd III users confirm, that Acne-Ltd III will improve the appearance of facial redness (erythema) and acne pimples and pustules.

TYPES OF ACNE - ACNE EXCORIEE

Acne excoriée is the term given for scratched or picked pimples. Acne excoriee is commonly called picker’s acne. Acne excoriée begins as a common acne outbreak of pimples. A pimple erupts, first one, then another. Many people find it almost impossible not to mess with, poke, prod, and squeeze the pimple. Acne excoriee is considered an emotional motivated or induced acne condition.

The problems that arise with picking and scratching acne blemishes is that it’s unsanitary and infection can set in, causing a bigger blemish. When the acne blemishes occur on the face of someone experiencing episodes of self-doubt, emotional turmoil, or low self-esteem, however, picking the blemishes can lead to a disturbing obsession that is self-perpetuating. An ongoing cycle of eruptions and picking and open sores begins that can be very difficult to stop.

Neurotic squeezing and pressing of the pimples, trying to rid the contents with the fingers, exacerbates minimal acne lesions on the face. As a result, hyperpigmentation and stellate contracted scars occur, while often the original underlying acne has healed. Acne excoriée is more common in females than males, and can be a sign of stress or depression. Sometimes it is just a bad habit that's hard to break; the acne may not actually be all that severe.

Acne excoriee usually begins during adolescence, when ideas of self-image are in upheaval and undergoing change, matching the hormonal and growth changes going on with the body. A fragile self-image may create an atmosphere where every imperfection perceived, real or not, is distortedout of porportion. By picking away at the acne blemishes on the face, many people find satisfaction, as if they are picking away at their troubles or their emotional pain. Others pick because they are nervous or uncomfortable with the changes in their body. They cause physical damage to their faces in order to fend off any physical advances they may be unperpared to deal with . Picking acne lesions may also be a coping mechanism designed to mask or hide the pain of physical or emotional abuse in the picker’s life. This trauma may be ongoing or an eent from their past.

One sign that distinguishes excoriated acne from acne vulgaris is by the presence of hyperpigmented brown spots on the face, chest, and other places where acne eruptions are likely. These brown spots are scars from previous blemishes that have been picked to the point of permanent tissue damage.

TYPES OF ACNE – ACNE COSMETICA

What you apply to your skin can be the CAUSE your acne. Acne cosmetica, or acne caused by cosmetics, is a common mild form of acne. Topical factors rather than hormones and acidic imbalances in the body trigger this type of acne. Even those people who are not susceptible to acne sometimes suffer from acne cosmetica. As the name implies, acne cosmetica is triggered by the use of cosmetics or skin care products such as deodorant soaps. Acne cosmetica usually occurs on the face, neck, hairline and scalp but can occur anywhere on the body.
Cosmetics, because of their chemical composition, are directly related to the occurrence of acne. In fact, because it is generated by outside chemical substances, acne cosmetica is easy to control and prevent. Acne cosmetica presents as small, rashy, pink bumps on the cheek, chin, forehead and even the scalp. The skin texture will appear and feel rough. There is little to no inflammation associated with this form of acne. It develops over a period of a few weeks or months and may be persistent for a long time. Discontinuing the use of the particular cosmetic, which triggers the onset, can contain the outbreak. Using cosmetics or other oily skin or hair products, which block pores. Acne cosmetica is the result of the use of comedogenic hair or skin care products. When a skin care product accumulates within the follicle, the pore becomes blocked. Excess skin oil builds up, clogging the pore and creating a blemish. Pomades or hair oils, heavy moisturizers, eye creams, and makeup are all common causes of acne cosmetica. Studies have shown that while make-up may not cause true acne, but it can worsen an already existing acne condition.
Identifying and isolating the acne-causing culprit is important. If the acne cosmetica occurs on the forehead, hairline or scalp, hair care products may be to blame. Bumpiness and breakouts over the entire face and neck area most likely are caused by moisturizer or foundation makeup. Once the source of the acne is identified and use is discontinued, acne cosmetica gradually improves.
Small bumps and whiteheads in the eye area or on the upper cheeks could be the result of eye makeup or creams. Many women find that their eye makeup can trigger or aggravate ocular symptoms that may mimic or cause ocular rosacea. Replace every three to four months the entire bottle of makeup, as there is a good chance of bacterial growth from the applicator after use on your eyelids to the eye make up bottle. Often when you experience a flare or worsening of ocular irritation, simply replacing your eye makeup can easily solve the problem as bacteria can reproduce rapidly in mascara, eyeliner or eye shadow containers. Each time you use an eye makeup product it is exposed to airborne bacteria and pollutants as well as bacteria that are always present on the skin's surface.

Most customers notice changes in the condition of their skin within a couple of days and always well within two to three weeks after starting Acne Ltd III. Acne Ltd III is our third generation of the Acne Ltd product line and we have found the two-disk system contained in our acne skin care system to be most beneficial with the light tan application used during the day and the yellow/white application used at night. Many harsh acne products can be one of the causes of a more serious skin disorder called rosacea.

THE ACNE GROUP

THE ACNE GROUP is dedicated to providing accurate, reliable information on the treatment of acne, acne skin care and eliminating acne. Believe it or not, acne IS a skin disorder! Everyone seems to have acne and everyone seems to suffer from it.

ACNE IS CAUSED BY THREE MAIN FACTORS:

1) Abnormal keratinization of the lining of the sebaceous gland caused by androgen stimulation, resulting in plugging of the gland;
2) Increased production of sebum by the sebaceous gland due to androgen stimulation; A bacterium Propionibacterium proliferates within the gland and modifies the sebum.
3) Propionibacterium is a bacterium normally found on the skin.
Acne is influenced by many more factors. Hormones play a part in the production of conditions, which can promote the occurrence of acne. Over use or abuse of acne treatments themselves can cause a worsening of acne. Makeup applied to the skin can in some instances cause conditions leading to the symptoms of acne. Diet, while not normally thought to be a cause of acne, can in fact lead to a pH imbalance in the body and the body's largest organ, the skin will also be affected. Hair spray, gels and conditioners can clog the pores along the hairline leading to acne pimples.

The best way to understand and treat acne is to first separate the myths from the facts.

ACNE FACTS:

1) 80 percent of the population suffers from acne.
2) Bacteria is generally the number one cause of acne.
3) There are many different types of acne.
4) Ultraviolet rays are acne contributors, not preventors. Sun rays damage skin, not help it. Although a tan may temporarily mask acne, the sun can make the skin dry and irritated, leading to more breakouts in the future. Always protect your skin by choosing a sunscreen of at least SPF (sun protection factor) 15 that says noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic on the label, which means it won't clog pores.

Mild Acne

Acne is a skin condition involving the sebaceous glands of the skin. These sebaceous glands surround each hair follicle and produce sebum, an oily substance, to lubricate the hair. Acne usually appears on the face, back and chest, which left untreated, acne lead to inflammation and damage of the skin. Acne is caused by a plug of dead skin cells and oil in the canal that contains the hair follicle, under the surface of the skin. Because the plugs are underneath the skin surface, scrubbing will not get rid of them. In fact, rubbing the skin or using harsh or abrasive soaps can irritate the skin and make the acne worse.

Acne occurs in three basic stages, starting with mild acne and followed by moderate to severe acne. In stage one, acne is classified as mild when there occurs a maximum of 3- dozen comedones or non-inflammatory lesions such as blackheads and whiteheads or pustules. In addition there can be a moderate number of small, mildly irritated pimples, which appear at or near the surface of the skin in mild acne. But there can be no permanent acne lesions visible from a distance of 2.5 meters from the affected area. Permanent lesions and lesions which are visible from 2.5m away do not qualify as mild acne and would be considered moderate to severe acne.

Mild acne consists of small lesions, such as blackheads, whiteheads or pustules, which appear at or near the surface of the skin. Blackheads result when a pore is only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface. The black color is not caused by dirt but is a reactionary process of the skin's own pigment, melanin, reacting with the oxygen in the air. Whiteheads result when a pore is completely blocked, trapping sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, causing a white appearance on the surface.

Mild acne consists of closed comedones, open comedones and papules, which are defined as small, red, tender bumps with no head. Do not squeeze a papule. It will do no good, and may exacerbate scarring. It can be found in anybody ranging from infants to people in their old age. It can be found anywhere on the skin, that is, the face, arms, back, thighs, chest or shoulders. Mild acne does not usually leave permanent marks on the skin. However, squeezing pimples or trying to open them in other ways increases inflammation and the depth of injury to the skin, making scarring more likely.

Controlling Acne

There is a need today to search for new and innovative ways to treat acne and other skin conditions naturally without the use of drugs, lasers and harsh chemicals. Some call this the ‘green option’; others are just searching for an effective acne treatment. Effective skin care for acne must address the issues related to formation and production of pimples. The symptoms and appearance of acne can be controlled. The treatment of acne requires motivation and desire for change.

Most acne suffers have gained much knowledge in their battle with this skin condition, but unfortunately, most of the gained knowledge has not been helpful in solving their acne. You have discovered what does and does not work for your acne. Many acne sufferers have been frustrated by unsuccessful or marginal results from their acne treatments. Many have found that prescription medications such as steroids, retinoids, accutane, and various light laser treatments do not work for you and in some cases have caused more acne, and additional damage to the skin. The oral and topical antibiotics can work for up to several months before the bacteria become immune to the antibiotic, causing the antibiotic to no longer be effective. The harsh and aggressive ingredients in many acne treatments cause skin redness and irritation. The goal in treating acne is to promote clearer skin without damaging the skin.

Successful acne skin care begins with balance. As the body’s largest organ, the skin is directly tied to whole body health care. Achieve the proper balance in your body and you achieve the proper balance for your skin. The treatment of acne is a complex system of action and reaction. Acne partially results from an overly acidic body and skin. The pH (potential of hydrogen) ranges from 0 to 14 with 7 being neutral. Acne results from 'acidic triggers' regardless of whether they are foods, drinks, stress, or lack of breath due to not enough oxygen (oxygen is an alkaline) and inability to exhaust enough carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide is acidic). We all know that if we hold our breath for 30 seconds or 60 seconds, we will all notice that our face turns pink or red. We all know, but hardly think that the cause is a build up of carbon dioxide which is an "acidic" gas and we have a shortage of oxygen.

Water is alkaline and drinking more water with a pH of about 7.3 is an excellent way to neutralize, buffer or balance your acne.

Acne sufferers should also pay attention to the build up of acids in the blood stream due to the foods and beverages that we consume. We all know of our triggers such as alcohol, coffee, various medications, etc. which all have a pH below 7.0 or are termed acidic. Our objective therefore should be to balance, buffer or neutralize the acids with alkaline.

Acidity is measured as a pH of 1 to 7. Alkalinity is 7 to 14.The numbers refer to how many hydrogen atoms are present compared to an ideal or standard solution. Normally, blood is slightly alkaline, at 7.35 to 7.45; urine pH is the best and easiest way to check on the proper foods and drinks being eaten. Try to keep the pH in the 6.8 to 7.00 range for optimal functioning of the body and brain. If we are excessively alkaline, we don't have the mental and physical 'go' so we need our 'energy' brain and muscle foods and drinks during the day and very alkaline foods at night to calm the body and brain (parasympathetic system). This scale is logarithmic; meaning that each number is ten times stronger than the preceding number. For example, a pH of 2 is ten times more acidic than a pH of 3 and one hundred times more acidic than a pH of 4.

The body has several different ways to ensure that the pH balance stays in the normal range of 7.35 to 7.45. These are referred to as buffer systems. Through normal day-to-day activity in the body, acids are formed as waste products that need to be neutralized, alkalized, or buffered and eliminated. Some of the acids are released with CO2 from exhaling; others are excreted via the kidneys. With acidic foods and drinks, there is always more carbon dioxide (acidic) while alkaline foods produce much more oxygen. These systems work together in the healthy human body to keep the pH level within normal ranges. Sometimes with extreme intake of acidic foods and drinks, the normal system cannot compensate and the body becomes even more stressed resulting in more stress hormones, which are also acidic in nature causing an imbalance that may show itself in the form of acne pimples.

The adrenal cortex secretes cortisol, a natural body hormone of about 10 mg of cortisol daily, with peak cortisol levels occurring early in the morning and therefore the acne flushing and papules will look best in early mornings after this natural anti-inflammatory drug. The hormone that will report back to the original brain centers together with other body organs to tell it to stop the whole cycle. But since cortisol is a potent hormone, the prolonged secretion of it will lead to health problems such as the break down of cardiovascular system, digestive system, musculoskeletal system with resulting osteoporosis and arthritis - rheumatism, and the immune system. Also when the organism does not have a chance for recovery, it will lead to both catecholamine and cortisol depletion.

Acne-Ltd Has Made a Difference in My Skin

Acne-Ltd III is the first product I’ve used that made a difference. In the first week I observed a rapid clearing of the pimples and within three weeks it has visibly reduced the amount of redness. Everyone remarks on the dramatic change in my skin.
My dermatologist tried various creams, gels and antibiotics. It was controlled at first, only to return in a more severe way. I think this product is a MIRACLE! My skin has returned to the way it was before I had acne. I use the product a.m. and p.m., together with Cetaphil gentle face soap and sometimes apply jojoba oil. Using Acne-Ltd only takes a bit of time and makes a HUGE difference.

TYPES OF ACNE-ACNE ROSACEA

Acne rosacea is not true acne. Rosacea, previously called acne rosacea, is a chronic skin disease that affects both the skin and the eyes. The disorder is characterized by redness, bumps, pimples, and, in advanced stages, thickened skin on the nose. Rosacea usually occurs on the face, although the neck and upper chest are also sometimes involved. About 50 percent of people with rosacea will experience an ocular component to their rosacea. Ocular rosacea can cause a persistent burning or gritty feeling in the eyes. For others, ocular rosacea manifests itself as inflamed and swollen eyelids with small inflamed bumps, eye lashes that may fall out, compounded by bloodshot eyes. The ophthalmic signs of ocular rosacea can vary widely, including blepharitis, conjunctivitis, iritis, iridocyclitis, hypopyoniritis, and even keratitis.

Rosacea is an inflammation of the skin with resulting facial redness (erythema) and symptoms of vasculation of spidery blood vessels (telangiectasia), swelling (hyperplasia), and rosacea papules which may be mistaken for acne. Rosacea papules are red solid elevated inflammatory skin lesion without pus. Rosacea's more pronounced symptoms can vary in intensity when exacerbated. Rosacea has often been described as a progressive disorder; however, the rosacea symptoms do not have to become progressively worse. Rosacea can be controlled, managed and improved easily and quickly.

The redness begins and gradually becomes more persistent with spidery blood vessels becomes progressively prominent on the nose and cheeks. Trauma from abrasives and peeling agents (Retin - A and all other retnoids, steroids and exfoliants including anti-aging products) easily cause more long-lasting redness. Inflammatory papules (without pus) and pustules (with pus) develop and continue to worsen. Facial pores often become larger and prominent. If there has been much sun exposure damage over the years, the skin becomes more leathery skin becomes more wrinkled as it is not elastic or as soft to bend. Eventually, the sides of the neck as well as the area down to the center of the chest began to redden and later the ears and area behind the ears also become more red. The facial skin contours gradually become coarse and thickened. A small number of rosacea patients realize they have a more serious presentation of the disease of rosacea with the condition of nose tissue hyperplasia beginning. Hypergenesis is a general term referring to the proliferation of cells within an organ or tissue beyond that which is ordinarily seen as is indicative of cancer cells expansion. Rosacea is more than just facial redness. It is a complex interaction of the immune system response related to a pH imbalance in the body. Rosacea sufferers often have allergy and sinus problems, fibromyalgia, digestive system disorders, and in later years osteoporosis and arthritis - rheumatism presents itself along with a lowering of the total immune system.

It is often the cumulative effect of the treatments you've been using to treat your rosacea that may actually be the aggravating source or factor of your rosacea. Improving the skin involves a complete change in your thought processes and your approach to treating and controlling your rosacea. Treating rosacea involves much more than treating the damage that has already occurred. Effective rosacea treatment and skin care also involves preventive rosacea skin care.

In The Treatment of Acne

When treating acne, one sometimes sees an acne-like eruption around the mouth area. Known as peri-oral dermatitis, peri-oral refers to the facial area around the mouth while dermatitis pertains to inflammation, redness or irritation of the skin. In addition, there are usually small red bumps or even pus bumps and mild peeling as the skin is extremely aggravated. Peri-oral dermatitis symptoms characteristically involve the mouth area, but generally do not affect the lips themselves. You may also notice flaking of the skin at the site of occurrence. Many times if the flaking is isolated to the lip area it may be mistaken for chapped lips. Often the skin around the nose is affected too, and sometimes it can affect the area under and around the eyes. When peri-oral dermatitis expands to include the eye area, it should more correctly be termed "peri-ocular", or even, "peri-orificial" dermatitis. Peri-ocular dermatitis consists of similar flaking and redness with or without the appearance of small papules or pustules. This condition may be wrongfully thought of as acne while others believe it to be a manifestation of rosacea. Peri-oral dermatitis is often aggravated by fluoridated or tartar-control toothpaste, chapstick, the ingredients in lipstick, and mouthwash. According to the International Rosacea Foundation, discontinuing the use of fluoridated or tartar control toothpaste for six months may help reduce the symptoms of peri-oral dermatitis. Peri-oral dermatitis is a common skin problem that mainly affects young women, although men and children may also be affected by it

Common Misconceptions About Acne

1) Acne is caused by dirty skin. Acne pimples are not caused by dirty skin but by clogged pores. In fact, if you wash your skin hard and frequently, you can actually make your acne worse. Vigorous washing and scrubbing will irritate the skin and make acne worse. The best approach to hygiene and acne: Gently wash your face twice a day with a mild soap and pat dry. Aggressive cleansing of the skin will irritate it, causing the skin to produce more oil to form a protective barrier against abuse.

2) Chocolate or fatty foods cause acne. It may seem that each time we eat certain foods our skin erupts in acne, but its not so much the specific food as it is the acidic nature of the food. The key is to balance your intake of acidic and alkaline foods, which keeps the skin in the proper pH range.

3) Stress causes acne. Stress can not cause acne, but it can make acne worse, and having acne can be very stressful. When the body becomes stressed, the adrenal cortex converts adrenal androgens to testosterone in BOTH men and women, resulting in overactive sebaceous glands. The ovaries produce 25% of the testosterone while 75% is converted from adrenal androgens in the normal female. Women only have 10% of the testosterone that men have. Men have thicker skin and muscles than women and can handle much more testosterone. When the male or female body is stressed, the adrenal androgen conversion can almost double the testosterone in both men and women. This causes the T zone of the face to be oily, while other areas are still dry from dehydration. Adult acne and rosacea are sometimes by-products of stress and/or dehydration. Water and estrogen calm the "body's stress alarm system". The most important element of acne treatment is to keep the skin (body) hydrated. Water is a most important acne treatment in that it is alkaline (pH 7.3) and can be considered a natural treatment or an almost free acne treatment.

Many of you will note that prescription medications such as steroids, retinoids, accutane, and various light laser treatments do not work for you and, in fact, can cause additional damage to the skin. This goal is attainable and the method is Acne-Ltd.

Acne Is Sometimes Confused With Rosacea

Rosacea and acne are two entirely different conditions, although they can and do appear together. Rosacea is very often accompanied by acne pimples in over 76% of patients while approximately 35% have seborrheic dermatitis which makes for an even more sensitive skin condition. When the acne and rosacea appear together the result is often called by many names: acne rosacea, rosacea, or adult acne.

Acne can play a role in rosacea. Medications used in the treatment of acne can be too harsh resulting in damage to the skin which manifests itself in the form of acne. Acne is an inflammatory skin condition characterized by superficial skin eruptions around hair follicles. Many of the more commonly accepted products used to treat acne can actually cause further damage to the skin resulting in other skin conditions such as rosacea. Acne pimples occur in 82% of rosacea patients which may be referred to as "acne rosacea". These products are frequently used to open the pores (exfolients, various acid-based products, and retinoids) but can be very drying and irritating to the skin.

Many products when applied to the skin alter the balance of the skin making it susceptible to bacterial growth and infection. Upsetting the skin's natural balance can lead to yeast infections, perioral dermatitis, over production of sebacceous oils, and possibly worsening of the acne condition.

Controlling these conditions and the factors that cause and further irritate them is important in the management of acne and/or rosacea. Factors which can play a role in this include but are not limited to: glycolic-based ingredients frequently found in foundation, anti-wrinkle creams and moisturizers, cleansers containing salicylic acid, alcohol, or benzyol peroxide. If it has the ability to dry or exfoliate, it can alter the natural balance of the skin. Once this balance is disturbed; the skin reacts with pimples, papules, redness, itching, flaking and/or increased sensitivity.

Factors Which Influence Acne

There are three main factors contributing to the occurrence of acne:

1) Abnormal keratinization of the lining of the sebaceous gland caused by androgen stimulation, resulting in plugging of the gland;

2) Increased production of sebum by the sebaceous gland due to androgen stimulation;

3) A bacterium Propionibacterium acnes proliferates within the gland and modifies the sebum. Propionibacterium acnes is a bacterium normally found on the skin.

Acne is influenced by many more factors:

1)Hormones play a part in the production of conditions which can promote the occurrence of acne.

2)Over use or abuse of acne treatments themselves can cause a worsening of acne.

3)Makeup applied to the skin can in some instances cause conditions leading to the symptoms of acne.

4)Diet, while not normally thought to be a cause of acne, can in fact lead to a pH imbalance in the body and the body's largest organ, the skin will also be affected.

5)Hairspray, gels and conditioners can clog the pores along the hairline leading to acne pimples.

There is a need today to find new and innovative ways to treat acne and other skin conditions naturally without the use of drugs, lasers and sometimes harmful chemicals. This is not an unrealistic acne treatment goal. It is possible to live with, control and manage acne safely and effectively. One way to do this is with Acne-Ltd.

Effective skin care for acne must address the issues related to formation and production of pimples. The symptoms and appearance of acne can be controlled. The treatment of acne calls for some self-discipline and willingness to change, and an understanding of the causes of acne.

Treating Acne With Good Nutrition

Most of us have suffered from acne at one time or another beginning in early puberty. Its medical name is "acne vulgaris" and indeed, many of us feel that it is absolutely vulgar.

For some, it is severe enough to require medical intervention by a dermatologist. For most people, though, acne is a relatively mild condition that can be controlled with a healthy diet, as well as basic good hygiene practices and keeping your face clean.

Most teenagers suffering from acne will find that limiting certain foods, or completely illiminating them from their diet, will help a lot in getting rid of acn

Sugar and other refined carbohydrates

Experts suggest avoiding refined carbohydrates, such as white flour, and especially sugar. This includes high amounts of fruit juices, although whole fruits should be consumed.

Sugared sodas especially should be avoided. These are often overlooked as major sources of sugar, since they are drunk rather than eaten.

For a natural non-caloric sugar substitute that has no aftertaste, try stevia liquid, available at most health food stores or online. It is purported to be 600 times sweeter than sugar, so a little goes a very long way.

Switch from white flour and refined foods such as white rice to whole wheat breads and brown rice. Make sure to read labels and look for the words "100% whole wheat" or "100% whole grain." Carbohydrate foods low on the glycemic index are best to control acne breakouts, so foods such as white potatoes should also be avoided.

High amounts of fats, including "good" fats

There's a lot of talk these days on "good" versus "bad" fats. Indeed, "good" fats such as polyunsaturated and unsaturated oils like canola or olive oil, the fruit of the avocado and nuts are "good" for you in small amounts, while hydrogenated oils and trans fats should be avoided altogether. But if you have acne, you should be especially careful to limit your fat intake, even good fat intake.

Dietary fat from any source can increase the sebum production of the skin, leading to acne breakouts. Peanuts and peanut butter especially should be avoided or greatly curtailed. However, fish oil supplements or eating fish a few times a week will help acne breakouts, as these are beneficial to skin health.

Dairy products

Unfortunately, that bowl of ice cream you enjoy as a snack every night not only probably has sugar in it, an acne no-no, but dairy also contains hormones such as progesterone, which can lead to acne breakouts, as can the iodine in dairy.

It has been shown that the fat content of the dairy does not seem to effect its promotion of acne breakouts, so substituting skim products for full-fat products will not help. Using soymilk instead of regular milk and other soy products such as cheese will help control breakouts.

Incidentally, it's unclear whether chocolate itself, commonly thought of as an acne trigger, actually causes acne. However, most chocolate consumed also contains high amounts of refined sugar, which is an acne trigger.

Reducing or eliminating the foods noted above, along with good hygiene, will greatly reduce or even eliminate acne breakouts, along with other good habits such as ample consumption of fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and getting enough exercise. Bon appétit!
